In the current IPL season, veteran India spinner Piyush Chawla has been outstanding for the Mumbai Indians (MI). Chawla has already taken 13 wickets in nine contests. Currently, he is positioned fourth on the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list.
MI recruited Chawla during the IPL 2023 mini-auction in order to acquire an experienced spinner. Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande failed to capitalize on their opportunities last season, creating a need.
MI signed Chawla at the IPL 2023 mini-auction for INR 50 lakh.
Notably, the team led by Rohit Sharma finished at the bottom of the points tally in the previous edition due to their poor performance. However, Chawla is currently having a strong run with the ball, so their acquisition has thus far been fruitful.
Chawla has been relatively economical for Mumbai Indians this season and has contributed crucial wickets on numerous occasions for the five-time champions. In the interim, he remained unsold prior to the 2022 edition. Chawla was acquired by MI at a mini-auction in December 2022 for just INR 50 lakh and is proving to be a bargain.
RR set a target of 213 runs for MI in the 1000th IPL match.
The IPL 2023 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was the league’s 1000th contest. Sanju Samson, captain of Rajasthan Royals, won the toss and elected to bat first at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RR scored 212 runs in 20 overs thanks to the century earned by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He scored 124 out of 62 balls, including 16 fours and eight sixes.
Five-time IPL champions Piyush Chawla, who has been in superb form thus far this season, scored twice. He provided a significant breakthrough for the Rohit Sharma-led side by dismissing Jos Buttler for 18 runs. He then dismissed Devdutt Padikkal. In addition, the 34-year-old allowed only 34 runs in four overs.
