Andrew Wiggins is poised to rejoin the Golden State Warriors ahead of their first-round playoff series against the Sacramento Kings. This is a significant lift for the Warriors.
Wiggins has been deemed healthy and prepared for the opening round of the playoffs.
“Andrew looks great, is feeling good, and is ready to go,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said following Thursday’s practice.
Due to a family matter, Wiggins missed the final 25 games of the regular season. His final performance was on February 13.
Uncertain is whether Wiggins will return to the starting lineup or replace Donte DiVincenzo. Additionally, Golden State must determine how many minutes Wiggins can play.
The Warriors defeated the Kings 3-1 this season, with Wiggins missing the April 7 road victory by 119-97 points.
“I believe it will depend on how he feels tomorrow and Saturday,” Kerr stated. “On the one hand, Wiggs is one of those individuals who never appear out of shape or exhausted. He is simply a naturally talented athlete.Alternatively, he has not played in (more than) eight weeks. So perhaps the contest will decide. We must simply play it by ear.”
In 37 games (all starts), Wiggins averaged 17.1 points and 5.0 rebounds this season. He shot 55.6 percent from the field against the Kings and averaged 25.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game.
