Phil Jackson has certainly earned the right to say whatever he wishes about basketball, having won 13 championships. However, we also have the option to correct him when he speaks foolishness. During an appearance on a podcast with Rick Rubin, the former head coach of the Chicago Bulls explained why he ceased watching the NBA during its 2020 bubble season.
Jackson stated, “I observed how the game evolved and decided…when they went into the lockout year and they did something kind of strange.” “They conducted a bubble in Orlando, and all the qualifying teams went there.
And they had phrases such as ‘Justice’ and ‘Justice just went to the basket, and equal opportunity struck him down’ printed on their backs. And somebody had a different moniker for a player with… on the back of his jersey; he had a different slogan. Therefore, my grandchildren thought it was quite amusing to play with these titles.”
Instead of taking the time to explain to your grandchildren why these players felt it was essential to advocate for justice and equality, you made fun of their genuine emotions? He then complained about the presence of Black Lives Matter on the court. Again, Phil, you could have mentioned that many of these young Black men do not always feel secure in America, and that they felt compelled to remind the NBA’s enormous audience that their lives matter. But I assume you need not be concerned about that.
“I was unable to witness that. They had inscriptions on the floor as well. Alongside the baseline. “Catering,” she stated. “It attempted to appeal to a specific audience. Or attempt to engage a specific audience. And they were unaware that it was repelling others. People wish to perceive sports as apolitical.
Phil, just save us all some time and say, “I’m a rich white guy who doesn’t care about the lives of the young Black men who helped me make all my money.” As expected, Undisputed moderator Shannon Sharpe was offended by Jackson’s remarks and attacked the former Los Angeles Lakers head coach.
Shannon disagrees with Phil Jackson’s criticisms of the NBA for “catering” and being too political.
He queried his co-host Skip Bayless, “Can you tell that stupid politics have always existed in sports?” “Ali, Jack Johnson…Backtrack through [the] history of time. Sports have always involved politics. Now, suddenly, it turns him off… Please, Phil. You look ridiculous.”
Okay, Phil, we no longer require your opinion on basketball. You can return to disregarding the game, and we will continue to disregard your opinion. Your lack of empathy and comprehension for the males who created you is ignorant and insulting.
