The signing of Arthur Melo has left the Liverpool recruitment staff “embarrassed,” according to sources from Football Insider.
Ahead of a crucial transfer window for Jurgen Klopp’s side, recruitment sources at Liverpool have told Football Insider that the club has pledged not to repeat the same error.
Melo’s loan debut has taught the club a valuable lesson about rushing a deal, as the 26-year-old came on deadline day last summer (2022).
Saturday, April 8, Football Insider reported that Liverpool has informed Melo that they will not be acquiring him permanently this summer.
Injuries to players such as Jordon Henderson and Thiago necessitated the Reds taking the Brazil international on loan for a season at a cost of nearly £4 million.
Melo, however, suffered a severe quadriceps injury and missed the majority of the 2022-23 season due to surgery.
This season, he has made just one senior appearance for Liverpool, a 13-minute cameo against Napoli in the Champions League in September 2022.
Aside from the loan fee paid to Juventus, the former Barcelona star reportedly earns £110,000 per week at Anfield.
In addition to Melo, midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are anticipated to leave Liverpool this summer.
The Merseysiders’ recruitment staff must learn from the errors made with the signing of Melo as they plan a midfield overhaul, which could include a deal for top target Jude Bellingham.
Meanwhile, Football Insider reported on Friday, April 7, that despite Wolves removing Matheus Nunes’ release clause, Liverpool is still attempting to sign him this summer.
