Six Nations Women
After the men’s Six Nations competition (for Irish supporters), the women’s begins next weekend. Ireland visits Cardiff first. The Irish ladies want to start the 2023 tournament better than last season’s opener, when Wales triumphed at the RDS Arena in Dublin. England and France are far ahead of the other teams. The gap must be closed. – RTE 2 Saturday
MotoGP
Fans love the elite class of motorbike racing, but the rest of the world appears to ignore it. Portugal’s Algarve International Circuit hosts the 2023 season this weekend. MotoE, Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP make up the championship. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) is the favorite to regain the MotoGP riders’ title, but teammate Enea Bastianini, six-time MotoGP winner Marc Márquez (Honda), and 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo will challenge him (Yamaha). Boat Race
One of those oddities where 99.9% of people watch one sport a year. Cambridge University Boat Club and Oxford University Boat Club’s best row open-weight eights on London’s River Thames in the University Boat Race. Irish rowers include Cambridge’s Tom Lynch, Caoimhe Dempsey, and Oxford’s Alannah Burdess. Cambridge won the 2022 women’s race in a record time, while Oxford won the men’s race after three consecutive Cambridge wins. It is one of the most British yearly athletic events. Sunday BBC
