When they face Zimbabwe in four Twenty20 Internationals beginning on April 25 in Bangkok, Thailand will be looking to extend their white-ball winning streak beyond five matches.
The hosts enter the T20I series in excellent form after sweeping the ODI series against Zimbabwe by 78 runs, 45 runs, and six wickets, and Thipatcha Putthawong’s sensational spell of 6/6 from 6.1 overs in the opening match.
Thailand’s impressive performance against Zimbabwe follows their victories over Netherlands in four ODIs and three of their four T20Is late last year, as well as their thrilling run to the Women’s Asia Cup semifinals.
In the ODI series against Zimbabwe, Thailand’s captain Naruemol Chaiwai scored 111 runs, including two fifties, and was dismissed only once in three innings, while 19-year-old left-arm orthodox Putthawong concluded with nine wickets.
Zimbabwe will rely on left-arm spinner Kelis Ndhlovu, who took 10 wickets in the ODI series, to unsettle the Thailand batting order. Zimbabwe’s leading run-getter was opener Sharne Mayers, who amassed 77 runs from three assured innings.
